How to Connect PC to TV

Jan 26, 2012 07:46 PM

Connecting PC to TV is easy. You can either do it by using cables such as HDMI, VGA or DVI, or alternatively you can stream content wirelessly from your USB 2.0 port.

However, if your computer and television have different input ports, you may require a converter or adapter. For example if you have a VGA laptop and a HDMI television, you will need a VGA (Male) to VGA (Male) cable, a HDMI 1.4 Male to Male cable, a 3.5mm Mini Jack to RCA audio cable and a VGA plus audio to HDMI transmitter.

Some cables transmit video data, but do not carry audio. As mentioned above, to establish a VGA PC to HDMI TV connection, you will not only need VGA and HDMI cables and a converter box, but you will also need an audio cable. HDMI cables do carry audio signal, however VGA cables only transmit video data.

If you have an Apple PC or laptop with a Thunderbolt of Mini DisplayPort input, and your television has a HDMI input socket, you will need a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter (which also supports Apple Thunderbolt).

You can also connect your Apple iPad to TV by using an adapter and HDMI, VGA or DVI cable (depending on television input), and if your TV is not HDMI, you will also need an audio cable.
